Course Description

The Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf & Spa offers the ultimate in golfing luxury with a superb hotel and three superb golf courses to choose from, each set amidst one of the most impressive backdrops in the country.

The Championship Course meanders through rolling parkland, testing golfers with play around mature trees and beautiful water features to tournament style USGA specification greens all with stunning views over the Cheshire countryside.

The course opened in 1990 and was named Golf Course of the Year in 1995 and is the star of Portal's golfing complex. Renowned golf course designer Donald Steel has created a challenge that is characterised by unique and distinctive holes, expansive water hazards with cascading waterfalls among the tests. The course can play to over 7,000 yards so it is capable of testing the very best.

The Premier Course features several notable holes including the superb par three seventh, cut out of a sandstone quarry. The layout was designed by former European Tour professional Andrew Murray back in 1990.

In contrast, the nine-hole Arderne Course is perfect for either a gentle warm up or a fun competition which will test every level of player.
