Length: 6,360 yards Par: 72 Moorland Course
From its hillside location, above the charming town of Mirfield in West Yorkshire, Dewsbury District Golf Club enjoys enviable views of the surrounding countryside.
It is a course that has been touched by the hands of some of the game’s greatest designers. Originally laid out by Old Tom Morris on a parcel of land known locally as the “Pinnacle”, the course has subsequently been updated by Ganton’s Ted Ray - who extended it to 18 holes in 1906 - as well as Dr Alister Mackenzie, of Augusta National fame. Legendary commentator Peter Alliss and contemporary course architect Dave Thomas have also contributed to Dewsbury’s evolution into the part-moorland, part-parkland course it is today. Measuring 6,360 yards, it is a true and fair test for players of all standards.
The 14th is probably the stand-out hole. A 423-yard par-4 named “Ridges”, a good tip is to take the church tower in the distance as your line.
The course is complemented by other fantastic facilities, including a modern clubhouse, famed for its warm, friendly atmosphere, and a very well-stocked pro shop. Visitors, meantime, are always welcomed with open arms.
