Cheshire’s Hazel Grove Golf Club is home to a charming parkland course that places a premium on accuracy rather than sheer power. Natural water features are a recurring hazard to be navigated over and around, while the 6,500 trees that were planted during the reconstruction of 1990 have matured to narrow landing areas and present avenues through which tee shots and approaches must be threaded.
It is these elements of the course at Hazel Grove that mean considered course management is of paramount importance – a refreshing challenge that makes the course accessible to golfers of all abilities and ages.
It is hard to distinguish a signature hole from a consistently pleasurable 18 at the Cheshire club. However, the tee shot on the 15th, which plays either over or around a vast pond is perhaps the most memorable moment. Playing from an elevated tee, the 285-yard par-4 presents the ultimate risk or reward opportunity.
