Humberside is fast gaining a reputation for its array of golfing delights. Supreme among these is the wonderful parkland course at Hull Golf Club.
The opening four holes offer variety in terms of distance, undulation, and par, and give you a sense of the challenges that lie ahead.
At the ninth, just prior to the turn, comes Hull's toughest hole. A 449-yard dogleg par-4 with out of bounds a constant threat to tee shots that veer right. Players must favour the left side of the sloping fairway which sweeps downhill in a gentle dogleg around a large copse of trees before revealing a long, uphill second to a two-tiered green. A par here is a rare feat.
Hull’s feature hole is the archetypal risk and reward tenth; a downhill, driveable par-4 with a hazardous pond lurking to the front and right of the green. Those bold enough to take the driver can expect anything from an eagle putt, a watery grave or, worse still, three off the tee, as out of bounds hugs the right side of the fairway.
