Course Description

Sculpted out of the natural contours of the land by men, there is a certain romance about playing golf at Llandrindod Wells.

Overlooking the town of the same name and the neighbouring valleys, you get a sense of timelessness as you look down from the first tee.

Best described as an upland links course, the lush turf, natural hazards and well-protected greens rated amongst the best in Wales offers the chance to play a memorable round of golf in such a unique setting.

By the standards of today, the course is not long but, against a par of 69, the course record still stands at only 65. Out of bounds comes into play on eight holes and a 75 can soon become an 85 if you put a couple over the fence and lose one or two when going for dangerous shots.

To single out one hole is almost impossible but there has always been a certain notoriety attached to the lucky 13th. From an elevated tee, you face a shot that has to carry an almost vertical bank some 200 yards away, with out of bounds tight to the left side and trees and deep rough to the right.

Another memorable hole is the 297-yard par-4 18th called ‘Death or Glory’. Stand on the tee and make your decision: Do you play safe, or attack the 250-yard carry over a deep valley and road beyond? This hole has been aced – but only once.
