Searching for the perfect society day out in the south of Wales? Look no further than the stunning Vale Resort, which boasts two 18-hole championship golf courses.
The Wales National is the longer and tougher test of the two courses, stretching to more than 7,400 yards in the beautiful Welsh countryside, with five lake areas coming into play on half of the holes on the card.
But it also contains a great mix of wooded areas, wide and narrow fairways, some enormous bunker complexes, while all putting surfaces are USGA standard. The 495-yard 16th is the course’s signature hole – a dogleg right which sees the green split by a massive bunker and lake at either side. Accuracy with the approach is absolutely key here.
The Wales National has a standard scratch score of 75 against a par of 73, highlighting its difficulty but, if you think that might be too much, you can always take in the Lake Course. Around 1,000 yards shorter than the Wales National, the Lake Course has staged numerous Wales and West PGA professional championships.
It is dominated by a 20-acre lake and has water coming into play on 12 of its holes. The eighth hole looks down over the largest heronry in Wales, while the unique signature hole, The Island Green (12th), is ranked one of the UK's top golf holes.
