Located just outside of Bolton, the delightful Deane Golf Club is over 100 years old and, for those seeking a truly traditional golfing experience, it ticks every single box.
A private members golf club, Deane is one of the friendliest in the area and is a busy hub for local golfers.
Located to the West of Bolton, it is a delightful parkland layout and noted as one of the oldest golf clubs in the district. It sits along the valley of the River Croal and offers wonderful views of Rivington and the West Pennine moors.
The course is great fun to play, as it is punctuated with a vast array of hazards to overcome during your round, not least, the many small ravines that have to be crossed - particularly in the early stages of your round - and the undulating parkland that adds an extra dimension to the game.
One of the stand out holes on the course is the 141-yard par-3 13th, Deane’s answer to Royal Troon’s famous ‘Postage Stamp’. Walk away with a par here and you’ve done well. The next, the 14th, is another fine test of your golf skills, with out of bounds to the left, trees to the right and an elevated tee giving you full view of the trouble that lies ahead.
Measuring 5,677 yards over 18 holes, it is by no means a modern-day championship test - but it does offer a wonderful test of golf.
