Course Description
Designed by five-time Open champion James Braid, Finchley is a picturesque 18-hole, par-72 parkland course regarded as one of the finest in North London. The course and clubhouse are located in a secluded setting – a far cry from the bustle of Central London, which can still be easily accessed – and it offers the perfect getaway from the rigours of city life.
All of the course’s holes are lined with a variety of trees, providing colour and definition.
The clubhouse was once home to a Victorian industrialist, Henry Tubbs, who had strong business links to Canada. The trees, bushes and shrubs on the course close to the clubhouse near the first, 12th, and 18th greens reflect that connection and are all indigenous to North America. The variety of trees close to the fountain on the 12th hole, have been brought together for visual appeal. The course is home to a range of urban wildlife including Muntjac deer, foxes and squirrels.
The course plays fairly tight. There are slopes on the fairways and the greens. To play the course well, requires finding small landing areas. The greens are renowned for their pace, and excellent condition.
The stunning Victorian clubhouse is a perfect place to enjoy a post round bite to eat or sit on the terrace with a drink and enjoy lovely views over the course.
