Course Description

Just a short drive into Wales, Northop Golf Club is home to a well-designed and relatively modern course with an impressive past.

Designed by former Ryder Cup player and renowned golf coach John Jacobs, Northop is now well into it’s third decade having been formed in 1994 and is already considered one of the top golf courses in the region.

Proof of this was cemented when it hosted a Challenge Tour event in 2003, while it also hosted the Welsh PGA Championship in its first year of opening. The front nine is a challenge, with a long uphill par-5 to kick things off. The course really comes into its own in the back nine, though.

The 11th to 13th holes at the far perimeter of the course really stand out as the most imposing and impressive – as long as you avoid the streams. The par-5 11th hole is the toughest of these, with two streams to negotiate, a narrow fairway, and large overhanging trees making ball positioning vital.

The signature hole, meanwhile, is the 16th – named ‘The Quigley’. A dogleg par-4, the tee shot has a wide expanse of water to avoid on the right and trees to stay clear of on the left before an approach can be played to a green protected by a stream.

Northop is one of North Wales’ best inland venues and it’s only going to get better.
