Course Description

Golf has been played in Carnoustie for well over four centuries and the three courses that make up the Angus town’s golf offering – Championship, Burnside and Buddon – help to make it one of the most popular golf stop-offs for visiting groups in the UK.

The Championship Course has hosted eight Opens, including in 2018, and while it is generally regarded as the toughest on the Open rota, those who understand the game a little more will know it is probably the fairest too.

Without doubt, though, the Championship Course has the toughest closing stretch anywhere and those finishing the final four holes with no more than a bogey will be very happy.

The Burnside Course oozes character and is a splendid test of golf. Many of the short holes could grace the top links courses around. In 1953 Ben Hogan shot 70 round here to qualify for The Open which he later won.

The Buddon is the newest of the three courses at Carnoustie and, designed by Peter Alliss and the late Dave Thomas, it opened in 1979. In recent years two new holes were created, bringing the course up to a very testing par-68.
