Course Description

Founded in 1922, High Post Golf Club boasts one of the best courses in the South West. With stunning views of Salisbury Plain, the chalk downland course, designed by Open champion J .H. Taylor, is named after the site of an ancient gallows pole. High Post offers an excellent challenge to all levels of golfer.

The 6,300 par 70 course includes 2 par 5s, majestic elevated drives on the long downhill par 4s, 12 & 16, and a cracking fi nishing hole in the 411 yard uphill 18th. The 4 par 3s feature well-protected greens which make accurate club selection vital, especially in wind. Tricky approaches to plateau greens offer challenges on 9,12 and 16, while the short but testing 4th hole can be tricky to par.

Overall, this is an easy walking course with undulating wellbunkered fairways, deep welldisguised grass hollows, all-yearround playability and excellent turf. The quality of the true and fast greens is an outstanding feature. The legendary “Voice of Golf” Peter Alliss is a big fan of High Post. His favourite hole – and one that is said to have made his 18-hole dream course – is the 384 yard dog-leg ninth.
