Course Description
The coastal stretch from the city of Dundee to the town of Arbroath really can be described as hallowed golfing grounds. Among the notable venues sharing this terrain with Open Championship host Carnoustie is the terrific Monifieth Golf Links.
Boasting two 18-hole courses, Monifieth's history is one of the longest in the sport, with play over the Medal course being recorded as far back as 1643. The Medal is a unique links course that wields its way through undulating ground and is celebrated as the venue for Tom Watson's first ever game on a Links course..
In the summer, the links-like nature of the course really comes to the fore, with fast running fairways and greens providing an excellent test of golf. Next door, the shorter Ashludie course offers the perfect warm-up round during a day package that involves 36 holes and a well-earned stop for lunch. Its more compact layout still provides a challenging test of golf, where an accurate short game is essential.
Taken together, both Monifieth courses, as well as the choice of three clubhouses in which to dine, make a visit to Scotland's East Coast a very attractive proposition.
