Course Description
Enjoying one of the most dramatic and beautiful seaside settings in the whole of the British Isles, Porthmadog Golf Club is a place that every discerning golfer needs to visit at least once in their lifetime.
Its course is a mixture of links and heathland and is a simply exhilarating test of golf. No matter whether you are a high or low handicapper, you will be able to enjoy and appreciate the firm but fair challenge posed by Porthmadog’s exemplary course. Created more than 100 years ago by the acclaimed course designer and five-time Open champion James Braid, it is best described as a course of two halves.
The front nine plays away from the coast and, although the soil is sandy, the terrain is definitely best described as heathland, with water coming into play on no fewer than five holes. The back nine, by contrast, heads for the sea, transforming the course into a pure links and which has been described as a miniature Royal Troon.
There are many stunning holes at this layout but the 14th is especially memorable. With a friendly atmosphere transcending the course and clubhouse, it makes the perfect setting for any society outing.
