Course Description

Built in 2005, it isn’t difficult to see why Machynys Peninsula is rated by many as one of the best new courses in Britain. Nestled between Llanelli and the banks of the River Loughor, the par-72 layout has already earned serious recognition in its decade of existence, having hosted an unprecedented eight championships, including two R&A Championships and four Ryder Cup Wales LET Championships of Europe.

European Tour star Tommy Fleetwood also believes it’s ‘arguably the best man-made links in the world’, and from the moment you park up, it’s evident that you’re in a high quality facility.

The course is routed in two distinct loops with a parkland front nine and an inward half that has more of a links feel by the sea.

Gary Nicklaus acted as chief designer on behalf of his father and his favourite hole is the 451-yard 16th which is played across a lake from right behind the clubhouse, making it probably the most beautiful hole on the course.

Machynys represents a true test for the lower handicapper but is still enjoyable for the higher handicapper and a corporate and society treat.

This is due to five tees per hole so the difficulty factor of the course becomes the player’s or organiser’s choice.
